You don’t need solar panels to save with a home battery.
Charge it when electricity is cheaper. Use that stored power when prices are higher. No panels, no roof work.

See what a battery could save you
Tell us about your home, your electricity use and your tariff. We’ll estimate what a home battery could save you.
Which address?
Start typing your address.
How much electricity do you use?
Annual kWh is best. If you only know your monthly bill, we’ll estimate your usage. Not sure of either? We’ll use the UK average and say so.
Use my actual electricity rate for a more accurate estimate
Which way does the main roof face?
We couldn’t measure this roof from imagery. Choose the closest answer. If you are not sure, we’ll use a cautious assumption.
How shaded is the roof?
Trees, chimneys and nearby buildings can materially reduce generation.
When do you use most electricity?
The more solar electricity you use while it’s being generated, the more grid electricity you avoid buying.
Export tariff assumption
Which best describes your electricity tariff?
A battery saves money by charging when electricity is cheap. That needs a tariff with a cheaper off-peak rate.
Do you have solar panels?
Panels that make electricity, not solar hot-water panels.
Do you have an electric vehicle?
Homes with an EV can usually move to an off-peak tariff, which is what makes a battery pay.
Buy electricity when it’s cheaper. Use it when it’s expensive.
On a time-of-use tariff, overnight electricity can cost a fraction of the daytime rate. A home battery charges in those cheap hours and runs your home on that stored power during the day.
- Cheaper overnight electricity
- Home battery
- Power your home later
No sunshine required.
What could a battery save you?
Your result depends on how much electricity you use, when you use it, and which tariff you can get. We calculate it for your household rather than assuming every home is the same.
Calculate mine →Typical price about £6,000*. Assumes electricity prices rise 5% a year, below the average yearly rise since 2014. Estimates from our model. Not a quote.
*UK installer quotes for a system this size usually range £4,000–£8,000, depending on the kit and manufacturer you choose. Your installer confirms your exact price after a survey.
Who could benefit?
Already have solar?
We can’t estimate a battery alongside existing panels yet, but we can get you a price from an MCS-certified installer.
Have an EV?
You’re likely already on an overnight tariff. A battery lets the whole house use it, not just the car.
Use a lot of electricity?
The more you use during the day, the more a battery can shift onto the cheaper rate.
Don’t want solar panels?
A battery works on its own. Garage, utility room or outside wall. No roof involved.
Will a battery definitely save me money?
No. That’s why we calculate it first.
The saving depends on your usage and your tariff. On a standard flat-rate tariff there’s no cheap window to charge in, and our model shows no saving unless you switch tariff.
If the numbers don’t work for your home, your result will say so. We’d rather tell you before you buy a battery than after.
If the numbers work, we’ll get you a price for the right battery.
The right size.
Sized from your electricity use, not the biggest one an installer can sell you.
The right equipment.
The battery, the manufacturer and the warranty set out with your price.
An MCS-certified installer.
We get you their price. You decide whether to go ahead. Nobody else gets your details.
Install by 31 March 2027 and pay 0% VAT, not the 5% due after under current rules.
